New York Attorney General Letita James is pushing the federal government to expand language access for severe weather emergency alerts throughout the state.
With the recent severe weather, James is leading a coalition calling for the Federal Communications Commission to expand that access for critical government alerts to cellphones, also known as wireless emergency alerts.
She’s also urging the FCC to use human translators for these alerts, which are far more reliable than machine translation.
James in pushing the FCC to increase the number of available languages for these alerts from 13 to at least 25.
