A notorious Bay Shore sex offender was back in court Thursday to once again face felony charges.
Sal Inghilleri served 12 years for molesting his wife's goddaughter, Katie Beers, in 1991. Beers was just 9 at the time. As a convicted sex offender, Inghilleri is supposed to notify authorities of his location. However, the Suffolk District Attorney's Office said he failed to do that this year.
Prosecutors said Inghilleri moved away from a Bay Shore motel to North Carolina earlier this year without telling police in either location. Police caught up with him at a girlfriend's house in North Carolina. They said he hid in the closet when officers arrived.
"The reason why he has been charged is not because of his notoriety," Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota said. "It's because he's a convicted sex offender who violated the law."
Bail was set for $100,000 cash. Inghilleri faces one-and-a-third to four years in prison if convicted of the felony charge.
