6h agoCity and state leaders broke ground Monday morning on a new high school in Norwalk.
Construction of the new state-of-the-art building has already started where the current high school's football field and track are located.
The new high school will include two schools, the P-TECH program and Norwalk High School, with a total enrollment of 2,000 students.
Once its finished, the existing high school building, will be demolished, and new athletic fields will be built.
Dr. Alexandra Estrella, Superintendent of Norwalk Public Schools says the new high school is necessary to prepare students to succeed.
"We need to make sure we have facilities that are equipped to set-up experiences that prepare scholars for the future,” she said. “And in order for us to do that we need to have more projects like the ones we are seeing here today."
Norwalk will receive an 80% reimbursement rate for the construction cost from the state.
