Northwell Health in Manhasset has now opened a dedicated center to screen for the Zika virus in pregnant women.
Starting today, a specialized team of medical professionals at the former North Shore Hospital will offer consultations every Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Dr. Burton Rochelson says "We're looking to see whether the head circumference, the size of the fetal head is appropriate for the number of weeks and days they are."
The news comes as the World Health Organization says sexual transmission of Zika is more common than previously thought.
They're also advising pregnant women not to travel to regions where the virus is spreading.
