Parents spoke out at a crowded Northport-East Northport school board meeting over plans to possibly sell two closed schools and an administration building.
Many said they want buildings to be leased in case they need to be reopened.
Offers from developers to purchase the properties ranged from $2.5 million to $16 million.
Possible uses for the land include the construction of townhouses, condos or single-family homes.
The district cites declining enrollment and rising taxes, following a 2020 agreement with LIPA to lower the utility’s share of the tax base.
The Village of Northport offered to purchase the William J. Bronson administrative building to construct a new village hall.
