Brentwood and Central Islip school districts have launched lawsuits against the SUNY Board of Trustees in an effort to block the establishment of charter schools.
Academy Charter proposed creating an elementary school and middle school in Brentwood, along with a high school in Central Islip.
The districts argue that the charter schools would take money and resources away from local public schools.
The plans were rejected by the State Board of Regents last year. However, SUNY trustees resubmitted them.
According to the lawsuits, the proposals will automatically gain approval under state law.
News 12 is waiting to hear back from the trustees for comment.
