A nor'easter slammed parts of the South Shore of Long Island.
Classes had to be canceled at Island Park Elementary due to major flooding. The storm also brought plenty of waves to Long Beach. Some surfers were tempted to get in the water, but decided the waves were too strong.
Despite a brief respite during the day Monday as some flooding subsided, residents in Lindenhurst were wary of rising tides overnight. In Freeport, one woman needed firefighters to carry her out of her car that was trapped on a flooded neighborhood road.
The storm caused havoc across the Island Sunday. Numerous roads were flooded or closed, including the Wantagh State Parkway. Cars could be seen trapped in 3 feet of water and some homeowners were greeted by water at their front doors.
