A local lawmaker is hoping to use President Joe Biden's infrastructure bill to get rid of the cap on State and Local Tax deductions.
The president's proposed plan would require changes to federal tax code.
Rep. Tom Suozzi says he will oppose those changes unless the SALT deduction is restored.
"No SALT, no deal. If they don't put the restoration of SALT deduction as part of the upcoming package, they will not get my support," says Suozzi. "People have already indicated they want to support it."
Suozzi says the cap on the SALT deduction has unfairly hurt middle-class families in the area.
