There is a new push on Long Island to keep young drivers safe as prom and graduation party season begins.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo's safe-driving campaign aimed at teenagers is called "No Empty Chair." Police departments across the state are boosting patrols around schools this week.
"The whole concept is that we want every high school senior to be in their chair for graduation. We want no empty chairs," says Chuck DeWeese of the governor's traffic safety committee.
"It's a three-pronged approach -- it's education, enforcement, and engineering," says Suffolk Police Commissioner Tim Sini.
Officers will be on the lookout for people speeding in school zones, plus people who are not wearing seatbelts and those who are driving while impaired or distracted.
