Despite recent renovations to the Middletown Road 6 train stop, the station does not include a lift for handicapped passengers.
A total of $11 million in repairs were put into the station for yellow tactile warning strips on the platforms, braille signs and revamped stairs.
The improvements also include a handicap-accessible MetroCard reader with a swinging door for wheelchair-bound riders. The major problem is the 26 stairs required to reach the train platform.
The MTA says the layout of the station and the $17 million it would take to fix the issue and install lifts are roadblocks that cannot be overcome.
The MTA also mentioned that the Middletown Road 6 subway station is one of the least used stations in the city. It ranks 405 out of the 468 stations citywide in terms of usage.
Riders who are in need of an elevator can use the Pelham Bay station. It can be found along the Bx24 bus line.
