The committee that oversees Nassau's finances held a meeting to go over the county's most recent and controversial budget.
NIFA has already said that the spending plan needs to be overhauled. It is not yet clear if the county or the committee will do the cutting.
Last Friday, the Nassau County Legislature voted to override a veto by County Executive Ed Mangano that would have locked in a 1.2 percent property tax hike. The bipartisan vote took place just hours after NIFA chairman Jon Kaiman warned lawmakers not to go through with it.
Kaiman, and the rest of the board, analyzed the budget with lawmakers. He says the county can't afford to cut off any streams of revenue in the face of a cavernous budget deficit.
