News 12's Kevin Maher helped surprise his former Bayport-Blue Point English teacher, who is retiring after more than 30 years.

Therese Blake started teaching fresh out of college in 1987. Maher says he knows because he was there for her first day - her first class in 7th grade English.

"I can tell you what dress I wore that day," says Blake. "I can't tell you a thing I taught. I was terrified."

Maher says she was also his 8th grade teacher and one of his favorites.

So, when Maher heard she was retiring he decided to surprise her - and he got her good.
