Christmas Tree Safety Tips:
Suffolk officials say to adhere to the following safety tips:
-Always pick a healthy tree
-Make sure to cut approximately 2 inches off the base before setting it up. This helps the tree draw water
-Check the water levels daily and add water as needed
-Check for needles dropping or drying out
-Remove the tree from your house once it begins to show signs of drying out
-Make sure to keep your tree a minimum of 3 feet from a heat source
-Do not block outlets or stack presents or decorations in front of an electrical outlet
-Do not block or encroach on exits
-Only use lighting and decorations certified by a recognized testing laboratory
-Watch out for pets
-Be sure to replace any worn, damaged or frayed lights
