The latest News 12 Long Island-Hofstra poll asked Long Islanders how effective they feel Gov. Andrew Cuomo's 2 percent tax cap is.

Of those polled, 45 percent said it was somewhat effective and 9 percent called it very effective. Conversely, 34 percent said the cap is not effective.

Many people News 12 Long Island talked to today weren't sure how effective the tax cap is because of the complicated formula involved. Similarly, 12 percent of those polled said they were undecided on the cap's effectiveness.

Dr. Roberta Gerold, superintendent of the Middle Country School District, says the complex calculations used to figure out tax levy caps in school districts add to the confusion among taxpayers.

"I think it's a very confusing concept," says Gerold.
