The holiday is getting closer. There's a push today to make sure that every Long Islander has a turkey on their table. The 16th annual, that page Turkey Drive, it is going on right now and the turnout has been so great. That's where we find our very own meteorologist, Alex Cal and Alex, you know, Long Islanders, they are typically generous and we have seen so many turkeys coming in and out through all these drive throughs. I don't know if you can see my genuine excitement right now, Jen, I'm here talking with Randy Shubin Dresner, who is the president of Island Harvest. We literally just seconds ago, got the morning numbers in for the number of turkeys donated, Randy. Share the good news. How many turkeys are we at? We need a drum roll. 4860 turkeys right now, which is already over what we did last year. So we're really because that means that 4800 families are going to get a good holiday meal this year. That's unbelievable. It's more than 400 more than last year and the Turkey drive continues until six tonight. So, what other donations are you accepting? Which, by the way, it is cold out here. So it's a drive by, you know, you just drive here right off of South Oyster Bay Road and you bring your donations, whatever gifts can people bring to help support, you know, certainly frozen turkeys, but canned and packaged foods. We also accept gift cards and contributions and by the way, if you can't contribute, but you want to stop by and say hello, we'd love to have you and, and see you. So thank you very much. Always great to be joined by our next guest Long Island Zone, the former governor, David Patterson representing Sands International governor, $10,000. The big check here on display again today. Why is it so important? Well, it's just as important as when we did it the past few years that unfortunately, while we're all celebrating Thanksgiving, there are too many people that don't even have food on day. And so we thought we could chip in and try to make sure that everybody has a happy Thanksgiving and you know what, you know, how much of a need this is for so many and sometimes it's people that you may not recognize are dealing with food insecurity. Sure. And part of the insecurity is not just that they don't get the food, but they feel so bad about it that they don't speak out and let people know that they need to be fed governor. Good to have you. Thanks so much. Thank you Friday before Thanksgiving. It wouldn't be the same without you, Richard. All right, let's bring in a special group. The county PB A come on over. There's a lot of you guys come on, pack it in and we love big check. This may be the biggest check. Wow. Look at this 1 $5000. Bring on here two checks and make that. And honestly, no people than you guys who are out in the community who knows these people need help. It could be your neighbors. It could be someone you work with. We don't know. Absolutely. This is what we do. We're police officers, we risk our lives. We help people, not just when we're working, but this is our communities. Like you said, our neighbors, we're joined with the Nassau Detectives Association. We work together and this is what we need to do. Get back. So please everybody out there help us on our mission. Island Harvest is believable organization and we need you to come by before work during work, take a break and please donate because everybody deserves a hot meal and a turkey on Thanksgiving. It really resonates when you hear a story of maybe someone who couldn't get that extra side or that bigger turkey. We are live here. And that at that page Federal Credit Union, accepting donations, trying to raise as much money and accept as many turkeys as we can today here. I want to talk to get right to these guests, to architects. You actually bought, brought Human Turkey today. You also brought a whole lot of turkeys, I think 1000 turkeys. So we're up to 1000 turkeys. We're still going to be collecting more today. So hopefully we are going to come here with 1200 turkeys. That's our goal for today. Unbelievable. We say something here at the drive every year. It's called Fill that Truck. Turkeys. Can you give me a fill that truck? All right. And of course, we have the volunteers and the people donating to make sure that this drive, we make all the money and collect all the turkeys. We can, we have Mike from Premier Payroll. Let's look at this. Wow, 400 Turkeys you're donating this morning. Yes. Can I get it? Why do you do this every year? This is your 10th year. I think this is our 10th year and there's just so many unfortunate people in need here on Long Island and we feel it's just right to get back. That's what it's all about. And knowing that this even just one turkey can make such a difference. 400 Mike. Let's get a, let's go for Mike. We also have other volunteers and Aaron Hargis and Mike as well from Rosenberg and Glove. Good to have you both here and $10,000 are a really significant donation. What does it mean to you to be a part of this? Why do you do it? Well, we you know, we like to get back to the community. It's near and dear to our heart in our business. We help people. We want to talk to Brian Frolik first because you give back every single year and it was 300 turkeys that Brian has here. Now to give to this event, you do it every year. How many pounds is that? 4000 pounds of Turkeys for Long Island families? And for Thanksgiving, me and Kenny are blessed to be able to do this. It's 11 year in a row and it's just a great feeling that we're able to give back for people watching. Why do you do this every year? You got to get back to your community, you got to give back, you make it, you got to give it back because there's a lot of families that need Thanksgiving dinner. What aside all those turkeys so true. Let's bring in Cameron here. Cameron step on in. Ok, Cameron's from office furniture direct and everybody focuses on the turkey. You make sure this is a well-rounded meal for everyone. Tell us what you've done here today. We're donating 170 cases of fresh fruits and vegetables to go along with the turkeys at the end of the day, a meal is not just the turkey itself, it's all the fixing. So there's fresh fruits and vegetables that are being provided for the families to go along with their turkeys. What does it mean for you to be able to contribute to this? You know, we, we've been here for a few years now and each year I think the feeling gets, gets better and better because you see that you're putting food on the tables of our neighbors, people that we work with, people that we live with that. Maybe we take it for granted that everyone has Cameron. Thank you. So we got turkeys, we got produce. But, you know, we love some money coming on down, come on down and David $10,000 you're presenting a check to island harvest today. Why is it so important to you? Well, this is part of the firm's culture at Mal Lippi is giving back to the community and it's one of the reasons I think that our employees have voted us Long Island best places to work two years in a row. So it's a wonderful event really quickly for people who don't have time to go get a turkey and come on down or produce or come on down money also helps because an island harvest can go by them. All right. Joining us. Now, here at the Turkey Drive is the President and CEO of Long Island Harvest, Randy, Supen Dresner, Randy. It's always good to see you. We are just blown away at the set up here. We're a little worried about the conditions. I don't think it will play a role today. You know, with a partner like Bethpage Federal Credit Union. This is going to be an absolutely incredible day. We have tents all over the place, but we have cones set up so people could just drive right through. We have an electronic tote board. So we know how many turkeys we've collected and we have just hundreds of volunteers that are going to be here today. A special thing that I see every year with you is how many people may turn on the TV. See us here have never given before and want to come down because it resonates to people that maybe their neighbor is struggling and something little they can do, can help someone on their holiday who would imagine that in a community where we have some of the wealthiest zip codes in the country, there are 221,000 people who are struggling with food insecurity. That's why we're here today because every turkey we collect is going to change a life for a family. And so we're here to hopefully collect well over 4400 and 50 turkeys so we can help thousands of our neighbors, our friends, our family this year, Randy. What's the key point for someone who's never come down before? They're thinking about it today? What do they need to know? Listen, bring frozen turkey. If you can bring a couple of cans of food or a case, bring a gift card, you can make a contribution here but just come by and show us your support.
