A newborn baby was found abandoned inside a gym bag on a Hempstead street Monday night.Police say the girl was found with its umbilical cord still attached around 11 p.m. at the corner of Clinton Street and Van Cott Avenue. Officials say they arrived at the scene after receiving a 911 call.A resident told News 12 Long Island that she saw a woman pacing for several hours near where the baby was found. The baby was taken to the hospital and is said to be in good condition.New York's Safe Haven Law allows an individual to leave an unharmed baby at a police station, fire station or hospital and not face prosecution. Police say whoever left the baby on the street corner will face charges for abandoning the baby. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
