New York will be spending more than $100 million on repairing Long Island's roads, but many drivers are frustrated because the repairs aren't supposed to begin until September.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has approved the plan to start the resurfacing projects in September, earlier than the initial start date of 2015. Long Island drivers say they want the plans to start sooner due to the risk of early snow in the fall. Others want to see the road work now because many roads are still covered in potholes from the harsh winter.
AAA's Robert Sinclair says they received a record number of pothole complaints from January through March. Sinclair says with vacation season starting Memorial Day weekend later this month, many drivers will be on the road and they need things fixed.
The state's Department of Transportation says it has to wait because it needs to finalize designs for traffic loop signals, then have the project go out for a competitive bid.
