An LIRR train is considered on-time if it's up to six minutes late to a station, but many commuters say that’s a problem.
Now state lawmakers are changing the policy, making a train officially late if it is two minutes late.
State Sen. James Gaughran says the new time standard is one aspect of the "MTA Rail Act" that's included in the state budget.
The act also calls for a major audit of the LIRR's performance.
The auditors will also be investigating fraud, practices for budgeting salaries and spending on design and construction.
The audit is expected to be completed by next January.
