Roller skating is making a comeback. Fairfield County's only rink
Roller Land is now open for business at the Stamford Town Center.
This is one of only a handful of roller rinks in Connecticut. It's an example of one small business that is getting empty malls back on their feet.
"This is the new mall experience. People are coming out in a family environment to shop a little, but they also want some entertainment," said Kendrick Bracey with Roller Land.
On the fifth floor of the Stamford Town Center you'll find Roller Land in this ten thousand square foot space. The mall's latest small business that has people rolling in.
"It’s been amazing. A lot of people have been sending emails and a lot of hits on Instagram so we're very happy with the response we're getting right now. Its big in China right now in their mall environment and we wanted to bring it to the states," said Bracey.
"You hear that a lot about malls across America just the changing environment of them and to see Stamford Town Center has done here has just been tremendous," said PJ Kennedy with Hey Stamford.
New innovative small businesses like this are keeping malls from closing. Roller Land provides a good cardio workout and is already making memories.
"We had a dad. He was bringing his daughter, I mean, almost every single day and when she first came, she could barely skate. I mean it was just steps and now she's flying around the rink," said Bracey.
Bringing back an activity that was popular in the 70s and 80s.
"When we come together as small businesses in our small business community that great things can happen and everybody can be successful," said Bracey.
The Mall also has a bounce house and has been in negotiations to bring in a miniature golf course and a climbing gym.
Roller Land is open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Prices start at $14.99.
