A group of neighbors in New Rochelle is renewing its push to stop development in the city’s downtown.

Resident Jim Killoran leads the group NewRo Enough is Enough, which is calling for a pause on downtown development to help preserve the community.

“We don’t have green space, concrete parks. We have cars and construction trucks stalling with pollution,” Killoran said.

The group is ramping up its efforts ahead of a planning board hearing Tuesday night at Council Chambers. According to the meeting notice, the board will discuss an application for a 28-story mixed-use building at 570 Main St. The project would require demolishing four existing buildings.

Killoran said the proposed changes concern him. “There’s a big danger here now, too. Fire trucks are here every day. God bless the firemen, but they’re getting called and it’s hard to get around,” he said.

The group’s co-chair, Shaun Wayawotzki, said they expect the board to vote on the project Tuesday and hopes residents attend to voice their concerns. “This was originally proposed last year in March 2025. We’ve delayed it since then because we had a large community turnout. We just want to show that when people unite and they voice their concerns, they can make a difference,” he said.

A New Rochelle spokesperson said he could not comment on those claims but noted that Tuesday’s hearing is a continuation of the board’s normal site plan approval process.

In the meantime, Killoran criticized city officials for siding with developers. “If you give me everything, I’ll take it. I blame those who say they represent us and have given it all away,” he said.
