A proposed state law would entitle every employee in New York to up to 12 weeks of family leave with partial pay.
The amount would equal two-thirds of the worker's weekly pay. The money would come from a statewide fund. All employees would contribute 70 cents a week from their paychecks.
While employers would not have to pay any money into the fund, some business owners are worried about other effects it might have. Physical therapist Mike Camp says in his line of work, replacing an employee for up to 12 weeks wouldn't be easy. But supporters say it's simply the right thing to do.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo, the state Assembly and the state Senate have all introduced bills regarding paid family leave. Efforts are underway to work out the differences between the proposals.
