Fire departments across the state have been getting alerts from the New Jersey State Fire Safety Division and the FBI Newark regarding the mysterious drones seen flying over the state. The alerts list eight recommendations for dealing with downed drones.

The first one states, "downed drones should not be approached." It goes on to advise firefighters to stay back more than 300 feet in all directions, use their full protective equipment, notify law enforcement and the FBI, request hazardous materials response, and request the nearest bomb squad. The last recommendation says electronic devices and two-way radio systems may malfunction in the immediate area.

News 12 obtained a statement from the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association.

“The NJ FMBA has been in constant contact with the Division of Fire Safety and other state agencies as they monitor the drone situation. While our members share the same concerns many New Jersey residents have, we remain committed to being the first line of defense for our state. We will be keeping our members updated as we continue to monitor the situation," wrote NJ FMBA president Eddie Donnelly.

There was a report that a drone might have crashed into a field near the Lowe's parking lot on Route 206 in Hillsborough Thursday night. There was a huge response including the state police aviation unit.

Responders searched the ground and the air, but say they were unable to locate a downed drone. Authorities later confirmed that "no drone was recovered" from the scene.

The FBI asks that residents share any videos or photos they may have of the flights, along with any other relevant information by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or submitting a tip online.
