The new Discovery Lab at Floral Park Bellerose School is hoping to turn Long Island elementary students into future innovators.
Children in the new classroom are learning about STEAM or science, technology, engineering, art and math.
"You know what, as a classroom teacher and I taught math for many, many years, we always did project-based learning and it's where the kids excelled," says Discovery Lab teacher Janice Hyland.
The basis of the lab is hands-on group work.
Taylor Patwell, another teacher at the Discovery Lab, says they are learning soft skills without even realize they are learning.
The teachers say children who typically struggle in certain areas are the ones leading the pack in the Discovery Lab.
Parents say they're so happy their children are able to have an experience like this.
They say it's motivating students and getting them excited about STEAM.
The Discovery Lab is open for students from kindergarten through sixth gradeSTUDENTS
