There may now be answers about why Middletown School Superintendent Amy Creeden is suddenly on personal leave.

News 12 has exclusively obtained federal filings with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that name Creeden and the Enlarged City School District of Middletown. The complaint, filed on Aug. 5, alleges the district violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and breached an employee’s privacy.

According to the documents, an employee who lost her husband to cancer was denied doctor-recommended accommodations — such as a private workspace — upon returning to work by Creeden and other district officials. The complaint also says that the employee’s confidential medical information was shared with staff without her permission.

A source tells News 12 that the information was allegedly disclosed to the district’s human resources director, who remains in her position. The source says the HR director received only a letter in her file and the loss of a single vacation day, despite what the filing describes as violations of federal laws and statutes.

That same source also tells News 12 that Creeden was suspended in connection with the case, but that the district labeled it “personal leave” to avoid scrutiny.

Last month, when News 12 first reported on Creeden’s absence, the district told families she would be back in a few weeks. It has since declined further comment.

The EEOC said it does not comment on filings and will not confirm if one exists due to privacy reasons. District officials say they will not discuss personnel matters.

Creeden is among the highest-paid superintendents in the Hudson Valley, earning more than $350,000 a year. She has been with the district for two decades in various leadership roles.

News 12 has also reached out to Amy Creeden directly for comment but has not heard back.
