The newest chaplain in the Nassau County Police Department is only the second Hispanic to ever hold the post.
Revered Derek Garcia is a Great Neck native and has accepted an appointment to be a department chaplain.
The 33-year-old Garcia is senior pastor at a Hispanic church in East Meadow.
Garcia's appointment as chaplain comes as statistics show the department's non-white members is now at 19 percent.
That's up from 11 percent in 2014.
