The Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame will welcome more than 20 new members this year, headlined by Brooklyn Nets coach Kenny Atkinson.
Northport is well-represented in the latest class, with Atkinson and U.S. Women's Soccer National Team midfielder Allie Long. Long, a four-time all-county player, is fresh off a Women's World Cup title.
Stony Brook women's lacrosse coach Joe Spallina is also among the inductees. The Rocky Point native has turned the Seawolves into a national powerhouse. He also led Adelphi to three-straight DII national titles.
Thomas Cutinella will be posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame. The Shoreham-Wading River football player died from an on-field head injury. He made the decision to become an organ donor shortly before his death and donated his heart, kidneys, liver, pancreas, corneas, numerous bones and skin tissue.
Hofstra Athletics Director Rick Cole Jr., legendary St. Anthony's High School football coach Rich Reichert, UConn men's soccer coach Raymond Reid, former Newsday sportwriter Mark Herrmann and University of Michigan women's basketball coach Kim Arico are also among those being honored.
The Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame, celebrating its 30th year, will be inducting its 2020 class May 26 in Smithtown.
