Neighbors raise concerns about masonry business
Roslyn Heights residents are raising concerns about potential health hazards and environmental pollution from a local masonry business.
Powerhouse Masonry's property sits along the Long Island Expressway service road, adjacent to several homes. Neighbors say they're dealing with concrete dust, sand, truck traffic and other problems.
Several residents held a rally with signs in hand Monday morning to call on the business and the Town of North Hempstead to take immediate action.
The town tells News 12 that it is aware of the situation and says it is actively prosecuting the business for expanding into a residential zone.
A town spokesperson said in a statement, "The health, safety and welfare of our residents is critically important to the town, which is why we have initiated legal action against the operator, Powerhouse Mason Supply LLC, for violations of the town code."
Other area business owners say Powerhouse has caused nothing but problems and needs to go.
"They get a delivery, the whole road closes. This is multiple times a day," says Steve Osman, a local business owner. "This should not be on the service road of the LIE."
Workers at Powerhouse declined to speak with News 12 on Monday.
