A near head-on collision on the Roslyn Viaduct Monday morning has motorists even more concerned that the construction being done makes driving over the bridge more dangerous.
Everyone involved in the near crash survived relatively unscathed, but residents say it should serve as a warning sign. Orange barrels line the bridge separating the lanes and large equipment tacked onto the viaduct make for a distraction, motorists say.
The road slopes on one end of the viaduct, causing some drivers to pick up speed and then suddenly the two lanes become one, giving drivers little time to slow down.
?You got a couple cars in there and everybody tries to squeeze into one [lane], and it's bad,? Rob Ryan, of Freeport, says.
Arlene Chambers, of Roslyn, agrees and says getting onto the viaduct often becomes a race.
The Department of Transportation says it is doing what it can while the repairs are made like speed reduction signs and a sensor that tells drivers how fast they are going.
DOT officials say the bridge work won't be finished until next year.
