A war on words is brewing throughout the food industry. At issue is what actually makes something "natural" versus "organic."
A recent study found that 73 percent of shoppers bought natural food while 58 percent bought organic. Products that bear the symbol "USDA organic" have strict production and labeling requirements. Those that say all-natural do not.
Because there's so much confusion over what the term "natural" actually means, more than a dozen groups are calling on the Food and Drug Administration to either define it or ban it from being used on food labels.
The FDA had been accepting public comments since last November, and Tuesday marked the last day. The agency says it will review all of the comments before determining its next step.
News 12 called the National Grocers Association for comment, but has not yet heard back.
