National Weather Service confirmed Sunday that multiple tornados hit several New Jersey communities during violent storms Saturday night across the state.

One tornado occurred near Jackson Township, another in Cinnaminson in Burlington County and another in Sea Girt. One that hit Howell Township is likely separate from the one in Jackson.

Crews are continuing to assess damage and other storm survey’s are ongoing.

The severe storm ripped through South Jersey.  News 12 New Jersey's Ali Reid was in Howell Sunday morning where the roof of a home was partially blown off. 

"We walked through our backyard last night…you couldn't see anything. Trees down everywhere, fencing, it's a mess back there," said Erin Coreali, whose home was significantly damaged.

"Driving around last night right after it was ending was pretty rough. It was raining, windy, hard to see," recalled Scott Nielsen, deputy emergency management coordinator for the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office.

The office worked alongside the Howell OEM, police, multiple fire departments and other operating field crews since Saturday at 7 p.m.

The National Weather Service continues to survey towns as a number of tornadoes have been confirmed throughout New Jersey. Details on full ratings will come once surveys are complete.

Howell Emergency Management Director Victor Cook says they are working to help residents and restore power in the area.

"Right now, we activated our emergency operations center to take calls from residents with damage to assist them, get power back up and homes assessed for damage. it’s going to be one of those busy days,” he said.

Howell Township Schools sent out a notice saying that schools maybe closed if power outages aren't resolved by this evening.
