A second medical marijuana dispensary is coming to Nassau, much to the ire of some residents in Carle Place.
The cannabis dispensary, owned by Massachusetts-based PalliaTech, is slated to move into an office on Glen Cove Road.
The site was previously an eye surgery center, so zoning has not changed – meaning the dispensary can move in without much input from the town.
In a statement, a spokeswoman from the Town of North Hempstead said, "The location of medical marijuana facilities is tightly regulated by the state. The Town's role is limited to determining whether the location is compliant with zoning regulations."
Resident John Viscusi says the dispensary should be placed in an area "more medically conducive for the environment."
Many residents showed up to a Jan. 30 meeting to express concern about the dispensary's location.
"We didn't get an answer I can trust fully about zoning, about what their products are or any of that," says Viscusi.
PalliaTech says it is looking forward to joining the community as a "good corporate neighbor." It says it is working to ensure that patients have safe access to medicine.
The dispensary will sell marijuana in capsule, liquid and oil form.
