Communities on the North Shore of Nassau County are preparing themselves in the event Hermine brings flooding.
Peter Forman, commissioner of the Port Washington-Manhasset Office of Emergency Management, says the way the area sits on the Long Island Sound puts it at risk for flooding from this type of storm.
"We have very narrow distance to Westchester so therefore the water piles up and spills onto the land," says Forman.
He urges residents to sign up with NorthShoreAlert.org, a free service that will alert them of any emergencies throughout the storm.
Official also suggest that residents stock up on a few days' worth of supplies and have flashlights handy.
