Freeport crews inspected all their equipment to make sure their check valves and pumps are working.
Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy says the town has implemented many flood protection measures ever since Sandy hit in 2012. He says the town has pumps ready to push any flooded water back into the bay.
Kennedy also says they want to make sure first responders can travel on roads without issue in case of emergencies.
“When you have these high tides, they close the check valves, which prevents the water from going back in to the bay…all the rainwater remains in the street and you can't get it out,” Kennedy says. “That is why we put all these pumps to pump the water around these check valves back into the bay.”
Officials are asking residents to take outdoor furniture indoors or to secure it because high winds are expected.
