One neighborhood on the South Shore is not letting the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy put a damper on its summer fun.

The Nassau Shores development in Massapequa is reveling in the joys of summer with a block party to prove that they beat Sandy.

Many of the homes in the area were destroyed by the superstorm, but now the community is planting grass, residing and building friendships. Resident Chris Fontana, who helped spearhead the celebration, maintains that the storm brought the neighbors closer together.

"We are definitely stronger than the storm," Fontana said. "None of us really knew each other, and after the storm, we've never been closer."

Some of the houses still need some work, but members of the neighborhood say that they have each other to help them through.
