A dozen local real estate companies are accused of refusing apartments in Nassau County to potential tenants trying to pay with Section 8 housing vouchers.
Undercover investigators captured at least one of those refusals on tape - leading to a discrimination lawsuit.
The investigation took place between 2020 to 2022 and was conducted by a national housing watchdog group.
The Nassau County law prohibits discrimination based on the source of a person's income.
A 2019 amendment to the state's Human Rights Law protects people paying rent with government assistance like Section 8.
