The Nassau Police Department is immediately scrapping codes a civil rights group says are derogatory.

The New York Civil Liberties Union found police internal spreadsheets denote Asian officers with the letter "Y,” apparently for yellow and American-Indians with an "I.”

The NYCLU says it raises questions about the way the police think of the communities they are sworn to protect.

Nassau police say the system is more than 25 years old and is not intended to reflect bias toward residents.
