Nassau police say that security detail for the presidential debate at Hofstra University on Monday will be one of the biggest it has had in recent years.

The first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will be held 9 p.m. on campus at the David Mack Sports Complex.

Students on campus say they have noticed changes in the past few days, including more public safety and police presence.

"You are seeing more stern men and women walking around campus and unfamiliar faces - and a lot of Chevy Suburbans," says senior Keanu Hypolite.

Acting Nassau County Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter says multiple road closures are planned. Oak Street, Charles Lindbergh and Earl Ovington Boulevards will close at 5 a.m., and portions of Hempstead Turnpike near the university will close at 12 p.m.

"The amount of resources that are going to be here are close to twice as what they were four years ago," says Krumpter.

Krumpter also says they are ready for 10,000 protesters.

Additionally, each person will be screened for prohibited items, including weapons, backpacks, bicycles, coolers, laser pointers and selfie sticks.

Hofstra, which is the first university in the country to hold presidential debates in three consecutive cycles, found out it was hosting the debate just 11 weeks ago. The university was also a debate stop in 2008 and 2012.

Topics of the debate will include America's direction, achieving prosperity and securing the nation. NBC's Lester Holt will moderate.
