Nassau police are putting a plan into place to make sure Inauguration Day goes on without any issues on Long Island.
Nassau police's Emergency Service Unit was out on patrol Tuesday at the Westbury train station. The county has been on high alert since the riots at the U.S. Capitol nearly two weeks ago.
"There is no immediate threat to Nassau County right now," says Sgt. Vincent Papa, of Nassau police's ESU. "The Nassau County Police Department is stepping up patrols. We are doing intensified patrols in areas of concern."
County officials say highly trained officers as well as other patrol officers are paying special attention to certain locations throughout the county.
The department says it's had briefings with the NYPD and FBI after warnings of possible violent protests in capital cities across the nation on Inauguration Day.
County officials say that those areas of concern are government buildings, hospitals, schools, houses of worship, fire departments and transportation centers like train stations.
"We are asking the public if you see something, say something. Please say something. If you hear something, say something. You will get a patrol car to your location ASAP," says Papa.
