A pair of father and son Nassau police officers rescued a man from icy water in Oceanside on Tuesday after he fell off of a dock at the Bay Park fishing station.
Police say the 50-year-old man had just finished duck hunting at around 4:45 a.m. and was filling his boat with gas when he slipped off a dock and into the water.
The man was immersed in the 37-degree water for about 30 minutes before officers James Sarnataro Jr. and Sr. found him. Sarnataro Jr. says that the man was shaking and pale.
Police say the man's waders had filled with water, making it difficult for him to get himself out of the water.
The man was treated for hypothermia at a hospital and is now resting at home. Police have not released his identity.
