Nassau County officials say starting today, they will be cracking down on drivers using fake license plates.
The move is part of their "Operation Safe Streets" program - an initiative that focuses on educating the public and enforcing safe travel on roadways.
Police officers will be conducting a safety checkpoint in East Meadow and will be on lookout for drivers using illegal paper license plates, misuse of dealer or transporter license plates, obstructed license plates, defaced license plates, tinted windows and seatbelt violations.
Police say these are some of the crimes and violations that can lead to other criminal activity on the roads.
