Nassau County officials say starting today, they will be
cracking down on drivers using fake license plates.
The move is part of their "Operation Safe
Streets" program - an initiative that focuses on educating the public and
enforcing safe travel on roadways.
Police officers will be conducting a safety checkpoint in
East Meadow and will be on lookout for drivers using illegal paper license plates,
misuse of dealer or transporter license plates, obstructed license plates,
defaced license plates, tinted windows and seatbelt violations.
Police say
these are some of the crimes and violations that can lead to other criminal
activity on the roads.
