Nassau police say the body of a newborn was found in a plastic bag on a Bayville beach early Saturday morning.

They say a man was walking his dog on Ferry Beach around 5 a.m. when he discovered the body.

Nassau police medics responded to the scene and pronounced the newborn dead.

Police say they have not confirmed the age of the child or the cause of death. Homicide detectives are investigating.
