It?s back to the drawing board for the Nassau County Legislature after a judge ruled members must vote again for a presiding officer.

The ruling states that the previous vote for presiding officer, which elected Republican Legislator Peter Schmitt, is null and void. The judge says there must be a clear majority, in this case 10 votes, for the position. Schmitt was elected with nine votes.

The judge also ruled that any action taken by Schmitt or Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams (D-Hempstead) is null and void.

The 19 members will reconvene on February 6 to once again cast ballots for a presiding officer.
