Nassau lawmaker holds hearings on water hike

Nassau residents facing a possible water rate hike have a chance to tell legislators what they think this weekend.
Nassau Leg. David Mejias (D-Farmingdale) is holding public hearings for the 44,000 Aqua customers in Hempstead and Oyster Bay that may be hit with a 12 percent rate increase.
The NYS Public Service Commission, who will ultimately make a decision on the hike, has held only two public hearings so Mejias said he took it upon himself to hold more. He says he will take residents? public comments and send them in a certified letter to the PSC.
Aqua says it needs to raise rates to collect $15 million for improvements.
