(10/13/06) MINEOLA ? A Nassau County judge postponed sentencing Friday for two men who pleaded guilty to scamming a mother out of her 9/11 victim?s compensation money.
Michael McEnroe and Ryan Gosin promised Susan Carroll, of Baldwin, they would take care of real estate investments she attempted to make in the wake of losing her son on September 11th. Carroll gave the pair $300,000 of compensation funds, saying she hoped to provide her other sons with a college education. McEnroe and Gosin?s guilty plea deal included full restitution, which neither has completed as of yet. McEnroe will remain in jail until the October 27 sentencing, while the judge allowed Gosin to stay home because he has returned a greater sum.
The district attorney claims the two spent Carroll?s money on personal expenses. Gosin faces a maximum sentence of seven years and McEnroe might serve as many as four years.
