A countywide drill put the Nassau health care community to the test Sunday. The main focus of the drill was to test the county?s Point-of-Distribution system (POD). PODs are sites where medication would be distributed in the event of a public health emergency. With the help of over 3,000 volunteers, the various police departments, fire stations and all Nassau County hospitals set up practice PODs. Monday, drill participants will take part in what officials call a hot wash, or a review. They?ll hear from evaluators who were at the various sites and discuss what went right and what went wrong. That information will then be used to improve the system in the event of a real emergency.
