A 13-year-old girl told police that a man followed her in his car and touched himself before speeding off near Hicksville Middle School earlier this week - and now the search is on for the suspect.
Nassau County police detectives say the teen reported she was walking along Fourth Street near Jerusalem Avenue outside Hicksville Middle School around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday when she saw a gray Nissan Rogue parked in front of Hicksville High School near Fourth Street and Division Avenue.
The Hicksville Middle School student said the driver made a U-turn and drove toward her while making continuous eye contact before stopping the car near Jerusalem Avenue.
The teen told police the driver exposed and inappropriately touched himself inside the car as she walked by. He then fled westbound on Fourth Street, she said.
Police described the suspect as a white man, around 40 years old, bald with a brown scruffy beard and a medium build.
The Hicksville School District sent a letter home to parents.
"As a reminder, we encourage all parents to discuss safety precautions with your children when walking and to report any suspicious individuals or activities to a trusted adult immediately," part of the letter read.
Detectives ask anyone with information to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or 911.
