It's a historic moment for the Nassau County Police Department as it swears in its first Muslim chaplain in the department's almost 100-year history.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman swore in Rashid Khan at a ceremony in Garden City.
As the chaplain, Khan will provide emotional, moral and spiritual support to Nassau police officers and staff.
"I know now Inspector Khan is going to be there for me also to help us better police our communities and better understand our officers," said Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
Khan has been in law enforcement for 25 years, volunteering as a Nassau County Police Department auxiliary officer.
