Nassau County PD holds ceremony to honor members who died in line of duty

Two names were added to the department's memorial wall: Detective Michael Kearns and Detective Erick Contreras.

The Nassau County Police Department held a solemn ceremony Thursday honoring those in the department who died in the line of duty.
Two names were added to the department's memorial wall: Detective Michael Kearns and Detective Erick Contreras.
Both died of 9-11-related illnesses.
The wife of Det. Michael Kearns, Stacy Kearns, said her husband was a fantastic father, husband and friend. She also described him as "an amazing detective."
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder told News 12, "We always keep our oath of service to the people, but we also keep a personal oath that we promise to remember the families and do what's right."
