Nassau County just earned some major bragging rights after being named the safest community in America.

Nassau County just earned some major bragging rights after being named the safest community in America.
A new report by U.S. News and World Report compared 3,000 communities across the nation. It looked at crime rates, deadly car crashes and money spend on health and emergency services. The result - Nassau a county of 1.3 million people came in first.
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran says safety is her first priority.
"I feel incredibly proud of our law enforcement, of our police, of our deputy sheriffs, our corrections our ambulances, you name it. Those men and women on the front lines, getting this done."
LIU students Thomas Bolesta and Isaiah Graham came from out of state to go to college in Nassau. They say they don't regret it at all.
"Being from south Florida, being here's kind of culture shock to me, everyone's just so welcoming nice," says Graham. "Great community feeling, I love it here."
U.S. News and World Report did not list Suffolk County among the top 20 safest communities in the country.
