Nassau County Legislature fails to approve capital plan
The $426 million plan includes funding for public safety projects, such as bulletproof vests for police officers and new ambulances.

A Nassau County Legislature vote on a proposed $426 million capital plan fell one vote shy Monday after the Legislature voted along party lines.
Democrats stated they were in favor of the plan, but withheld their vote demanding that County Executive Bruce Blakeman sign a document guaranteeing funding for several fire departments in their districts.
Blakeman and Democratic legislators Seth Koslow and Delia DeRiggi-Whitton debated the point in a heated exchange at Blakeman's press conference Monday prior to the meeting.
In order to pass the bond, the Legislature needs a supermajority, or 13 votes to pass. The Legislature passed a motion to reconsider and the matter will be discussed next month.
